Acupressure mats, sometimes called ‘shakti’ mats, contains hundreds of acupressure spikes to increase circulation and bring relief to the tight, stressed muscles that are causing you pain!

Many users also report deeper levels of sleep when using this self-care tool before bed each night.

How to Use Your Acupressure Mat:

  1. Start by using your mat with clothes on or with a sheet or pillow case covering the spikes.
  2. For some, this will give enough stimulation to have a good effect, however, some people can use the mat without a fabric barrier from the first use. Do what feels right to you.
  3. If you are using your mat without a fabric barrier, you may feel like you want to be done after one minute, and that’s ok! With regular use, you will be able to have longer sessions.
  4. Stay on the mat for as long as it is comfortable to you, up to 20 minutes (for the first use). After the first use, you can stay on the mat longer if you wish, up to 45 minutes.

What to Expect:

  • You may feel some discomfort when you first lay on your mat (you’re laying on sharp spikes after all!). If the sensation is too uncomfortable, it is strongly suggested to use a fabric barrier as described above.
  • After the initial intensity passes (usually within 2-5 minutes), you will feel a sensation of warmth spread over the area.
  • You can then will feel a strong sensation of relaxation in both your body and mind. For some, this happens very quickly, for others it may take up to 15-20 minutes to achieve this feeling of total relaxation while on the mat.
  • When you are finished with your session, and with regular sessions, you may notice less muscle tension and more flexibility.
  • You may notice your back will be pink or red and your skin will retain a unique texture that is temporary.
  • It is not recommended to let treated areas of the body be exposed to cold air or water for 6-12 hours after use. However, sometimes this is unavoidable and you should not worry. Where possible, keep the area clothed and wait until the next day to shower or swim.
  • I recommend regular use, particularly each night just before bedtime.
